Live video is a powerful tool for bringing extra eyes and attention to your actions and events. You’ve already crafted a compelling message, lined up a great slate of speakers, designed and printed signs and other visuals and coordinated site logistics; now let’s expand your audience beyond the crowd that’s able to attend the event in person and share the whole event (not just the short clips that might get picked up by the media) with your base.
There’s a huge range of options for creating live video in terms of production level and cost.
At one end of the spectrum, with a decent smart phone and a tripod, just about any organizer can stream a pretty decent live video on social media. You can usually get that done with almost no planning and no added cost.
At the other end of the spectrum you can book a production house to bring in a team of people with camera equipment for multiple camera angles, encoders, lights, microphones, and graphics software for overlays. That can take hours of planning and coordination time on your end and cost anywhere between $2,000 and $8,000 or more!
At Re:Action we got into the work of live streaming actions and events because we wanted to find a way to offer polished, reliable, professional-quality live-streaming in a way that is cost effective and accessible for our grassroots and frontline partners. We’re not a production house, we’re a movement support organization. We don’t live stream weddings, cooking shows, funerals or product launches, we only livestream movement actions and events: rallies, press conferences, protests, direct actions, panels and other educational events.
By focusing on what we know - movement actions and events - we have been able to develop an incredibly efficient workflow that lets us deliver professional quality livestreams at affordable rates without cutting corners or sacrificing quality. That means concentrating on the things that have a big impact in our use-case.
Our Approach to Live Video for Actions and Events
-
We use a special technology that combines cellular service from AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon all at the same time to ensure a reliable connection even in non-ideal situations.
-
User-friendly crossposting to allow you to quickly and easily connect all of your social media feeds to broadcast the stream. For coalition events you can also invite partners to sign up to crosspost the feed. n text goes here
-
High-quality audio with appropriately placed microphones to minimize background noise and ensures that your message is loud and clear even in noisy and chaotic environments.
-
On-screen graphics give a polished and professional look and keep viewers engaged. You can choose graphics matching your organization’s branding (lower thirds/speaker titles, intro-outro screens, slides, ticker, etc), a cleaner look with a simple logo embedded in a corner, or a completely clean feed.
-
Fast turnaround of raw footage (HD by default, 4K on request) and clips for social media (on request).

Pricing includes 1 hour consultation, bonded internet, basic on-screen graphics, distribution to as many social media platforms as you’d like, raw footage (HD by default, 4k on request at no additional cost), and video clips for social media (on request at no additional cost).

Booking and Production Process
Here’s a timeline of what you can expect when you book a livestream with us!
-
Shoot us an email to let us know that you’re interested in working with Re:Action to livestream your event. The earlier in the planning process you contact us, the better, but we can often make last minute and quick turnaround events happen.
-
Once we have the time, date and title of your event we’ll set it up in our cross-posting platform, Re:Stream. This allows you to quickly and easily connect all of our social media platforms.
-
Once your event is set up in Re:Stream we’ll send you a link where you can add your social media accounts to the feed. Simply follow the link, log on to your platforms, choose which ones you want to add and you’re all set.
More info on exactly how this works in Re:Stream’s documentation.
If it’s a coalition event you can invite organizational partners to do the same to host the stream as well. Or you can boost your own channels by asking your organizational partners to share the link to the feed on your social media accounts.
Once you’ve connected your accounts, some platforms like Facebook and Youtube will create events on your page, allowing you to include a direct link to your stream in press releases and turnout emails.
-
As your event gets closer, get us details for your on-screen graphics.
During the stream we can include names and titles of speakers, organizational logos, slides, or other graphics. Or if you prefer we can just broadcast a clean, unbranded stream.
If you have a style guide or brand kit, we’d love for you to send that to us, but if not we’ll just check out your website and match the colors and fonts to mirror your organization’s branding.
Additionally, we usually set up a “Starting Soon” screen and a “Be Right Back” screen as well as an ending title.
-
The day of the event you concentrate on your event and we’ll make sure the stream works! And if you run into any snags, remember that everybody on our team has years of experience organizing actions and events, so we can often be a helpful resource if you need some on site support.
(But we know it’s YOUR event so we’re also happy to stay out of the way if you’ve got everything under control!!)
-
As soon as possible, usually by the end of the day, we’ll send you a link with the raw footage of your action or event. By default we film in HD, but on request we can provide 4k footage.
We’re also happy to clip short segments formatted for social media with clips of individual speakers or key highlights. There’s no additional charge for this but it does take some extra time and capacity so please let us know it’s something you’re interested in and planning to use so we can prioritize that work.
